The curly coated retriever is the tallest and heaviest of all the retriever family, it is recognized by its distinctive coat of crisp tight curls and comes in just two colours, liver or black.
The curly coated retriever is a slow maturing breed, it responds well to all forms of training and makes a protective guard with its very deep bark, A kind temperament makes them excellent with children and other dogs, often aloof with a stranger, but a loyal and biddable companion as a pet.
Gladrags have imported from the USA as well as exported show and working stock many times over the years to America, Australia, Finland, France, Holland, Norway, Sweden to name a few.
All stock is hip scored and micro chipped. Dogs are at stud to approved bitches, which must be hip scored and approved.
Well bred puppies are occasionally available to approved homes, please see our litterbox.
Published in the Canine Press in 1992.
This year’s Dog World Top Breeders Competition was especially close with the top two brood bitches scoring the same number of points, and therefore separated only by a tie break decision based on the number of CCs etc won by progeny during the year.
This meant that runner up went to the leading gundog, Haydn and Gladys Phillips’ curly coated retriever, Sh Ch Gladrags Graffiti
Gladys and Haydn
Had their first curly in 1975, and have had a long association with their beloved breed stretching over many years. They joined the Curly Club in the same year, and it was in 1979 when Haydn became secretary, that he initiated the first breed show.
The Club went on from strength to strength and after applying and getting the license for the first championship show in 1984, Haydn stepped down from that post – they are currently retired from the clubs administration.
How did you get into this breed?
We first became interested in the breed when we saw Joe Roberts with his dog Ch Rungles Crack-O-Dawn when he bought him to Nuneaton Obedience Club where Joe was head trainer and Haydn was one of the trainers, we then waited two years for Audrey and Joe to mate Crack O Dawn to Donnaliza Of Darelyn from that we had our first curly Sh Ch Darelyn Crispian and a week later from Mrs Till we had Darelyn Copperlass a liver bitch.
TOP ACCOLADES WE HOLD.
Gladrags is also believed to be the only kennel in CCR history to have achieved the double at Crufts dog show with a litter brother and sister, not once but twice! In years 1999 and 2008.
Over the past 22 years they have been Top Breeders 20 times… Thank You to everyone for their help in making this possible.
